Often people with a heart condition find that they need to stop and rest during physical activity, usually because they are not getting enough oxygen to their muscles. This may be due directly to the heart condition, or it may be that they are simply unfit.
When you are considering whether or not to take part in an activity, think about whether there will be opportunities to stop and rest.
If you’re curious about how much physical activity you do a week, then why not keep a daily record by completing one of the ‘physical activity logs’ included in this toolkit?
If you are taking part in organised activities, like team sports or PE lessons, then it is a good idea to make sure that the person organising the activity is aware of your heart condition.
Make sure you give your PE Teacher or Form Teacher the ‘Guide for Schools Booklet' which you can order here. Alternatively, you can direct them to the Teachers section of the website here.
